Staying Safe During Covid-19

As the entertainment industry slowly starts back up again, naturally, there are many questions and concerns about how to return to work with the upmost caution and without risking the health and safety of ourselves and those around us. Having started my career in school attending Makeup Designory, proper sanitization was a practice I was taught to implement into my work very early on. However, COVID-19 has brought a whole new focus on proper disinfection practices. The health and safety of those who sit in my chair, and those I work alongside, have always been one of my top priorities as an artist. However, there is always room for improvement and adjustment. Therefore, I have taken time to become better educated in health and safety on set by taking various safety courses. Below, are certifications I have received for each course, including certifications from Barbicide and Safe Sets International. I have revamped and made many changes to my makeup kit, storage, and gear to better meet the health needs of everyone I work with during this time and to limit exposure and possible contamination. Some of the practices I will be implementing include but aren’t limited to the following…

  • Wearing a mask, face shield, and gloves during makeup applications.

  • Using disposable applicators when possible.

  • Placing tools that have been used into separate marked containers to prevent cross contamination.

  • Routine cleaning and disinfection during and in between makeup applications.

  • Keeping makeup storage surfaces non-porous.

As we slowly (and safely) begin returning to sets and shoots, I will continue to stay educated and up to date on current safety practices, make adjustments, and be as flexible as necessary. As we all know, this is a strange and uncertain time but we can and will get through it together.
